Hi all. I'm a huge lover of Haunted Houses and think I've seen the best in our trip to Kansas City (yes, we went to KC to visit the Beast and the Edge of Hell.) They are maybe beyond comprehension: go if you really love haunted houses.
By the way if you are thinking about going to Kings Island for their haunt save your money.
Anyway I'm coming from Cinci this Friday with the wife and my first question is - are there any other worthy must-see haunts up there? Terror Park? House of Nightmares ? The Prison? ?
My second question - should I come early to avoid a long line so I can visit another haunt or is the show better later in the evening?
I hear The Hoochie is the bomb and can't wait to see how it stacks up to The Edge of Hell! Thanks for any advice.

You seem to be a true haunt lover. I have a love affair with everything haunted as well. BUt I don't get a chance to travel around the nation visiting the top haunts. Jealous! Well then its about time you visited teh nations most extreme haunt the Haunted Hoochie! We won't dissapoint that I can say for sure. I say visit all the haunts you can while your up this way, while they might not stack up to the Hooch, I'm sure they all do a good job with what they have. I've heard good things about the mansfeild prison, but I've never been there myself. My soul is traped here at the Hooch, so I don't get out much. We are awesome anytime of teh night, you can come early, or drag yourself here well into the night, we don't care what time we kill you. Lines do fill up fast though. Can't wait to hear what a haunt enthusist like yourself thinks of what we got. See you soon!

Dear Killer, Thanks for the prompt reply. I like your guys attitude! If it is as scary as you say I will bring it to the attention and review on our local Haunt website - Randals' House of Doom. You can always count on great reviews and news about local haunts there. Check it out if you ever venture south, even just halfway down here. You guys should be listed and reviewed on there for sure! community-2.webtv.net/haunt666/RandalsBIGPAGEOF/ I wonder why Cincinnati seems to have so many more haunts than Columbus? Is there a good resource for full listings of Near Columbus Haunts that I am missing? We have some good ones down here- USS Nightmare (a unique 45 minute haunted riverboat ), Dent SchoolHouse, and Dr. Psychos at Land of Illusion are all great. The absolute scariest in our region for me has been the Haunted Hotel in Louisville - it is a true SHOCK HOUSE and will have you running and shitting your pants! I think after this weekend I may have a new favorite. I have rarely been so psyched for a haunt! Also kudos for having a message board - it speaks volumes for the fact that The Hoochie is not scared of any criticism. I can't wait!

Badass - thanks for the tip, we may just do that and maybe get the VIP pass for the Hoochie. Think it's woth the extra $? I have a thing with lonnnnnng lines, think I have ADD and my buzz might wear off!
Timbo - I went to the darkness back in 1997 and it was seriously scary. All the haunts in KC are in the same warehouse district(very scary). Anyway there was like 6-7 at one point and the Catacombs bought out 2 adjacent haunts making their's the Longest in the world(they claim). I think it took us 1.5 hrs . So the darkness is now part of that monstosity. There are now 4 main ones instead of 7. The Morgue is the newest and is soooo innovative with find your way out scenes that take forever with virtual hotels and indoor cemetaries with a sky built into the haunt where you go through each room trying to find an exit.
All four haunts there take at least an hour and are unbelievable. I took the wife a few years ago and she lost her mind. The Edge of Hell is still the BEST Haunted House ever done that I have seen. The Beast is second and done by the same production company. The Beast has a legendary full 1 acre room filled with trees and fog 3 feet deep, no path,(they separate you) and you must find your own way out amid creeping werewolves and lightning overhead.
Anyone in the Haunt business should make a point to go there in early september to get inspiration from some of their unique tricks, traps, and shit your pants scenery and effects.
They don't seek publicity anymore because they don't need it, people come from all over the world literally. I saw several groups of japanese tourists with cameras in hand, pretty funny. Their haunts are like Disney's mansion on a very BAD acid trip.
The only drawback for me is that my wife hasn't been impressed with one single haunt since I took her. Hopefully that changes this weekend. I will let you all know.....
