Well, where do I begin.....We showed up at the House of Pain last night, 9/19, at around 915pm. It was their opening night and we were the only customers there. We purchased our tickets and proceeded to the waiting area, where we stood for about 35min. It seemed that things were a little unorganized and they were not prepared. While waiting, another group of 4 arrived. Finally about 1005 we enter the H.O.P. Now anything and everything I come across, that the HOP advertises, is them comparing themselves to the Hoochie, and how they are so much better, their "one of a kind illusions" etc...
My first impression of the inside, was that I was walking thru a "Low Budget Hoochie Copy Cat" haunt. It was rediculous as to how many things were copied. Everything from the music from the DA Website, to the characters in the haunt. Its really disapointing for someone to copy as much as they did and then try to compare themselves to the ones they are copying. One of the characters there, has, in my opinion takin things a little too far. The kid with the White mask and tribal... I will post pictures here later to prove my point. Its just unreal.
Now for the actor performances, or lack there of.... I think I saw maybe 5 actors thru out the whole haunt. It was like we just kept seeing the same 5 actors over and over again. Their attempt at copying the hoochie style skits was a failure. Its cool that they want to go the skit route, just dont use the hoochies skits. The clown skit had been done at the hoochie for many years. I was not impressed with them at all, the lighting was way too bright for the skits.
Now the things I liked..... The very few things that were original and not copied! The waiting area was cool, reminded me of an old mine shaft. And the little girl on the swing was also unique and did the best acting. Reminded me of an old Nightmare on Elm street scene. Thats about it, the HOP needs stop it with all the hoochie copying. They are really not pulling it off and Im sure the owner of the Hooch doesnt appreciate it at all......
I have read where "certain" actors from the HOP claim that people tell them all the time that they are way better than the Hooch etc, all I have to say to that, is those people have obviously never been to the Hooch. These two haunts are in completely dif realms. The Hooch is in a Class all by itself. There is NO comparison at all.....
The fact that we drove over an hr to get there, paid $10 a person, waited in line for 35-40min ( when we were the only ones there), and to walk thru a haunt that took 7-8 mins to go thru. I can say that we were disapointed. Granite they did offer us half our money back ( that we didnt take) due to them not being prepared etc. The biggest disapointment, is them trying to capitalize on someone else's ideas and hard work.....
