So I went to go see the new Rob Zombie Halloween movie at the drive-in. I figured I would go to the drive-in to see the re-invisioning of a classic horror movie. Cause drive-in's always seem to give me that classic horror movie feel, something about watching a horror flick outside under the stars always gets my blood boiling. I was dying to see this movie, because my childhood memories are still haunted by this classic horror movie and its sequel. (We won't count the trainwrecks that were its further sequels, I'm only talking about 1 and 2)
I was totally amped to see this movie, praying it wouldn't suck, thereby tarnishing the horrifyingly wonderful memories I hold for the original. I had my popcorn and my milk duds at the ready. I was ready to settle back for a nice night of pshycopathic murder. The movie comes on and I admit the first twenty minutes of the movie were interesting. The new mask is sick! I approve! Then it all went wrong. I don't mean with the actual movie. Night fell in the story and from then on I could see NOTHING!!! The movie was so dark, I seriously could not see a thing. (Change the damn bulb in your projector!!!) The night sky was blending into the screen it was so dark. If anything the sky was brighter. So for the next hour all I heard was AAAAHHHH!!! AAAHHHH!!! AAAHHH!!!! Screams without the accompanying bloody mayhem just doesn't do it for me.
The movie could have been great, but I wouldn't know because I couldn't see it!! I finally gave in to just looking up, becuase I would rather watch passing planes, and police helicopters fly over head than stare at a black screen all night.
So maybe one of you that were sane enough to watch it in a regular theater could tell me, was it any good?
But I did watch 1408 afterwards, and it was excellent! Highly recommend. One of the more creepy movies I have seen in recent memeory.
Take it from me, don't see a dark movie at the drive-in. Although the drive in can be entertaining in other ways. You could always watch the drunk guy that was pissing on someones tire. Or people throwing beer bottle at the screen. There is always the guys cultivating a marijuana cloud inside their SUV two spaces down. The steamy windowed make out session in the car next to you (I rememeber the days). And the lady with 14 kids that were throwing skittles at passing cars. Or my favorite walk around and count how many pregnant women are drinking or smoking.
The drive-in, an american past time, infected by today's twisted society. What a trip.
